As an IVA, The AgriChain Centre will act under delegated authority of MPI within the export certification system. Independent Verification Agencies undertake services on MPI’s behalf to evaluate, audit and monitor the activities of exporters to ensure that they are complying with the regulatory requirements.
The AgriChain Centre said it is focusing its IVA services on its particular area of expertise – horticultural products & related services.
“We are delighted that we are now able to extend our already extensive service delivery to the horticultural industry into the regulatory phytosanitary and quality management systems area,” said Dr Hans Maurer, Director Strategy & Marketing.
He added that the appointment is consistent with the stated objectives of the New Zealand Horticulture Industry Strategy to double its export value by 2020 from its 2010 base.
The AgriChain Centre’s IVA section is headed by Massimo Ciccioni, Director IVA & Survey. He holds a Master of Horticultural Science (Post Harvest) degree from the University of Bologna, Italy and has extensive experience in managing The AgriChain Centre’s existing commercial produce inspection business.
