Australia passes new visa agreement for CN workers

9 October 2015

1,500 applicants were accepted, with the visa arrangement designed for people between 18 and 31 years old.

The visa holder can stay in Australia for one year to work and study. Fruit picking in Australia's orchards is a popular temporary job among immigrants. The new agreement could solve some of the problems Australia is facing with a shortage of low skilled workers.

Workers get paid the minimum wage of AUD $17/hour, around 80 RMB. They can earn up to AUD $20-30/hour if they are able to speak a reasonable standard of English.
