Strawberry seller picks wrong office

11 November 2016

He was subsequently interrogated by staff about where the strawberries came from.

HortNZ said that while it is currently legal to sell items like fresh strawberries unlabelled, new traceability laws in development by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) may change that. A significant review of food traceability laws has begun, and MPI intends to introduce new laws covering the labeling and traceability of food, including fresh produce.

The industry body said that it is unclear what the new rules will look like and what the implications might mean to the strawberry hawker in future.
