Aussie macs break new production records in 2016

6 January 2017

It reported that the total output of Australian macadamia in-shell, has reached 52,000 tonnes. This number is slightly higher than the initial prediction of 50,000 tonnes, and increased around 8% over the last year. The nutlet output remains the same as last year - about 10,500 tonnes.

The Bundaberg area’s output ranked first in the country for the first time, with around 40% of total production.

The industry said that the demand for Australian macadamia nutlets and shelled macadamias are still showing staggering growth, adding that recent free trade agreements with Korea, Japan and China are expected to bring positive effects to the export industry. After signing the Korean agreement, the quantity of the Australian macadamia that was exported to that market has risen by 150%, and exports to Japan has increased by some 18%.
