Air temperatures sourced from Niwa have confirmed air temperatures consistent with ground frosts for both Lismore and Methven, while Winchmore recorded a ground frost from 11.00 pm on 4 January until 7.00 am the following morning, some eight hours of temperatures below 0C. Air temperatures are usually around 2C warmer than grass minimums, but at Winchmore, the difference was closer to 4.5C.
