However, a global consent has been developed in the Twyford region, with the help of Horticulture New Zealand, which has averted an irrigation ban on almost 1500 hectares of some of the most productive horticulture land in Hawke’s Bay. Growers have combined all of their consents, and will augment the combined total of water flow of the Raupare stream if required.
Triplefin, an environmental and marine science company, reported that the augmented water had higher dissolved oxygen (DO) and lower water temperatures than the stream that was augmented.
HortNZ suggest that the Twyford global consent is a win for irrigators as well as the environment.
