NZFGA bemoans high Kiwi dollar
A lower Kiwi dollar would be great news for Kiwi flower growers, says Flower Growers’ Association president, Daniel Schuurman.
In a recent interview with Radio New Zealand’s Rural News report, Daniel said a lower dollar would certainly help the struggling flower growing industry which is constantly looking for ways to improve returns in difficult trading conditions.
“The higher dollar has been one of the biggest challenges for our growers who are already under pressure from increased competition in overseas markets.
“No matter how well growers grow the product, or find new and interesting varieties, the higher dollar has made life extremely difficult for the industry.
“It’s had a bigger impact on the smaller players in the market.”
Daniel said growers won’t be comfortable until the Kiwi dollar falls below 70 cents US.
