New guidance from the GIA Secretariat

22 December 2014

They provide interpretations of the GIA Deed in relation to acting in good faith, spending limits and engagement in the wider biosecurity system:

  • Defining good faith defines the concept of ‘acting in good faith’ for Deed Signatories in the context of GIA.
  • Setting and applying spending limits under the Deed  provides advice on setting and applying spending limits that takes into account the rights and expectations of Signatories around the application of ‘good faith’, fiscal caps, other principles in the Deed and relevant guidance.
  • Engagement in the end to end biosecurity system provides a starting point for Deed Signatories and potential Signatories thinking about what ‘engagement across the end-to-end biosecurity system’ means for their organisation, and what it could look like in practice. It helps Signatories understand why it was included in the scope of the Deed, what is meant by ‘engagement’, and what this means for how Signatories approach engagement.

Secretariat guidance papers are issued to aid Signatories and potential Signatories. They are not binding. The papers are available from the GIA Handbook.

All signatories and potential signatories are encouraged to consider this material, and any feedback is welcomed.
