NZFGA Calls for move to promote 'NZ Grown'

Tabled at the AGM in Christchurch was a call to importers of flowers to label imported product as such, as a move to address the avalanche of imported indian roses making their way in to New Zealand homes around key celebrations like Mothers Day and Valentines Day.

Consumers it is believed would show a preference for 'NZ Grown' cut flowers if indeed they knew flowers to be locally grown. The NZFGA is investigating the possibility of flower growers labelling sleeves of their cut flowers with an 'NZ Grown' sticker to assist public identification of our own produce

The NZFGA has in addition approached importers and distributors of cut flowers to seek their support to establish wider use of NZ Grown labelling and flower crop identification as either locally grown or imported product
