‘Tranquil’ Christchurch landscape designs being put in place

Lincoln University landscape architecture students have designed six serene gardens for demolition sites across Christchurch.

They have teamed up with Healthy Christchurch and Christchurch’s Maori, Pacific and ethnic communities to create the gardens – ‘Places of Tranquillity’ – temporarily at the demolition sites.

The students came up with 40 design concepts which were presented to the community, and put on display before people voted on the design they preferred for each of the six sites.

The six winning themes are titled Africa, Europe and Russia, Latin America, North and West Asia, Pacific and South and East Asia.

The winning students are now working with Christchurch landscape architects to finalise their designs and are working with Greening the Rubble and several ethnic communities to construct the temporary gardens.
