Seeking Two Committee Members for NZFGA
NZ Flower Growers Association – looking Ahead. Report from NZFGA secretary Chris Smellie
At the 2014 AGM in Christchurch, increasing difficulties in finding an active Chairman prepared to put in considerable hours free of charge and a supportive executive with portfolio responsibilities, were outlined by the chairman David Blewden.
The association was faced with either having more active office holders or better income to pay for a larger work input by the secretary, or go into recess. There was considerable support, from members attending, for a subscription rate reshuffle and subscription rate increase to pay for more work by the secretary. Just what the subscription rates should be has been discussed at length by the committee and a new set of rates will be apply for the 2015/2016 year.
However it has become apparent that two of the five current committee members will be standing down at the end of the year and the other three, while staying on as committee members cannot extend their commitments beyond what they already do. So there is a need for two new committee members one of whom needs to become the chairman.
If new committee members cannot be found the association again faces the possibility of going into recess as the constitution requires five committee members one of whom takes a chairmanship role. We request that consideration be given at this early stage as to who might accept nomination to the committee
Tentative arrangements for this year’s AGM with speakers are for the location to be Wellington on August 14th & 15th.
