Floribase Provides Useful insights on The Cut Flower Industry

Sometimes projects have un-anticipated benefits additional to their original purpose. This has certainly been the case for "Floribase", an initiative to create an on-line industry contact database for cut flower growers.

As part of data capture, respondents were asked to provide information about themselves. This included turnover and demographic information about the staff working in the business

The contention that the Cut Flower Industry attracts older participants as a semi-retirement income earner may be supported by the average age of the key contact, an impressive 57.4 years old. There are approximately 990 known growers in New Zealand, but the majority have a turnover of less than $150,000 per annum
