Taiwan Free Trade Agreement will Bring Benefits
Taiwan has a population in excess of 23 Million people, is the 50th largest country in the world, and in the top 16 most densely populated countries on the planet. The country's economic performance has been strong, with the most recent GDP figures in 2010 putting it at 10% annual GDP growth.
Aside from the obvious opportunities with a large urban and economically performing market, Horticulture NZ says the tarriff savings alone will greatly assist growers. Taiwan is the 6th largest market for NZ’s fruit and vegetable exports, valued at $105,035,360 in 2012.
Tarriff reductions will inject extra money into the horticultural sector. Estimated tarriffs of $19.4 million in 2012, under this agreement should decrease to being negligible in 3 years.
