Japanese Plant Pest List Expands

Japan Proposes Expansion of Quarantine Pest List

Japan has recently proposed amendments to it's Quarantine Pest List with the addition of 212 new species.  From the 212 newly added species MPI have identified 16 which are listed in the Plant Pest Information Network (PPIN) as being present in New Zealand. For the pests which MPI identified as being present in New Zealand, PPIN shows the following pest-host associations:

MPI advises that the above list may not be definitive and industry groups may choose to do a wider search of other databases available. The pest-host linkage is provided by MPI to give some guidance on products that the pest has been recorded on in the past, however because this information is not compulsory to report to MPI, records may not be complete.

Final date for comments on the proposed amendments is the 20th September. Those wishing to comment on the proposed amendments need to contact MPI urgently as follows, by 6th September:
