As well as discussing the issues being raised by Plan Change 6, the seminar will focus on nutrient budgeting for horticultural growers including a discussion on OVERSEER® Nutrient Budgets Software which is now widely used by dairy farmers and Regional Councils.
Massey University’s Dr James Hanly will deliver ‘Step Change in Sustainable Nutrient Management’ and Brendon Powell a Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Senior Land Management Advisor will give an introduction from Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s point of view.
Although the outcome of Tukituki River Catchment Plan Change 6 proposal is not known, it was felt this was an opportune time and forum to discuss nutrient budgeting and sustainable nutrient management which will no doubt continue to feature on farmers’ and growers’ radars over the coming years.
The aim of the seminar is to discuss the proposed changes, what effect it will have on those working on the land and their business, and also what the future expectations might be around land use and fresh water management. The National
Horticultural Field Day is designed to inform, educate and provide a venue for information transfer. The BNZ Seminar Series held during the Field Day does that, by tackling topics which are generating attention for those in the industry.
‘Step Change in Sustainable Nutrient Management’ Seminar will be held from 12.15pm-1.45pm. The BNZ Seminar Series is held in the Exhibition Hall at Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay in Hastings. Registration for the seminar is essential.
