The event is a joint presentation by the NZAGS, the Daffodil Circle and the Rhododendron Society.  Popular among both gardening enthusiasts and those just looking for an afternoon out and about, it includes displays of art, flowers and potted plants.

The varieties on display are beautiful and often unusual or petite and fragile-looking , and the specialist plant sales are popular too.  The organisers say that an alpine garden is something anyone can achieve as it is possible to grow a small microcosm in a trough or the smallest town garden.

The entry fee is only $5 to which goes to improving accessibility to the gardens.

The show runs from 1pm-5pm on Saturday, 20 September, and 10am- 4pm on Sunday, the 21st at the Canterbury Horticultural Society Centre, Riccarton Avenue.

Food, drink and EFTpos are available.
